Discover your partner's turn-ons, turn-offs, and favorite sex positions—based on the stars.
"BABY, WHAT'S YOUR SIGN?" might not be the sexiest thing you want to ask before hitting the sheets with someone, but it’s worth pointing out that asking your date for their zodiac sign has come a long way from a cheesy pickup line. In fact, knowing someone’s sign (and birth chart, if you’re nasty) is now considered such a legitimate deep dive into someone’s personality–including what they desire in bed–that it warrants whether or not there’s the possibility of a second date, or hookup. (See: the 10% of people who told us they rely on astrology to determine their compatibility with a potential partner.)
“I love astrology because it helps us understand ourselves and those around us on a deeper level,” says astrologer and best-selling author Lisa Stardust. “We can learn about people’s turn ons and turn offs as well as what makes them hunger for more when it comes to life, love, sex, and relationships.”
Since astrology can be used as a powerful self-awareness tool, taking a peek into your partner’s sexual tendencies according to their zodiac sign can reveal a lot about your sexual compatibility and chemistry, including what you can expect in the bedroom.
We asked Stardust, who’s been an astrologer for almost 20 years and who recently created the astrological manifestation tool “The Love Deck”, for her insight on how each zodiac sign gets off and what turns them off.
According to Stardust, since Aries are the first sign of the zodiac—and the youngest—they act their age in bed. “Aries are very selfish lovers. They like to be the best in bed because they have to be number one in all that they do,” she says. “They want to be the one who gives you the most orgasms and who turns you on the most because they need to feel special and need a lot of attention.”
Savor it, because Aries aren’t known to stick around. “Be sure to enjoy the moments as they last,” Stardust says. Due to their immature attitude, Aries will give you attention if you don't give them attention: “They like to work for all that they do—they’re a fire sign—so they’re passionate and extra ambitious.” Especially when it comes to a little friendly competition. “If you want to get their blood boiling and libido pumping, pretend that you’re not invested and have another hook on the line," Stardust says. "Jealousy and control is their ultimate aphrodisiac.” While it’s hard for Aries not to be emotionally combative, Stardust says curbing their temper and jealousy is something they can actively work on: “Stop doing all the work in relationships and let people help and support you.”
Turn-ons: “Because Aries are all about the ego and their sign rules the head, they like their heads rubbed,” Stardust says. “They like when you run your fingers through their hair—it feels very soothing and comfortable to them. A scalp and neck massage would feel comforting to them.”
Turn-offs: “A turnoff would be someone who kisses their ass and makes it too easy for them because they like to put in the effort of being your favorite person and lover.”
Sex position: Missionary position (when they're in the penetration position). “They like to control, and they like to be on top. Sometimes they like doggy style, and if they’re doing that, they love to look at themselves in the mirror because it’s all about the ego.”
Because they are an earth sign and are known for their deep sensual nature, “Tauruses like to feel touched a lot before and during sex, and will hold you tightly afterwards and kiss your forehead tenderly throughout the night,” Stardust says. They are notoriously lazy, but also like to be in control like the bull sign they represent, which is why Stardust refers to Taurus as “bossy bottoms.” They like to tell their partners how to ride them, and “they will complain if it’s not up to their standards and find alternative methods to get off if they’re not being pleased,” she says. And because they love their comfort zone so much, this also means a Taurus will get stuck doing the same positions over and over again. Which is why Stardust suggests for a Taurus to broaden their horizons and repertoires: “Try out different positions. Allow your partner to take control and you go on top for once.”
Turn-ons: “Anything sensual, and hedonistic indulgences—things like good food, good wine, and scents, like a nice perfume (they like a rose floral, musky scent)," Stardust says. They like it when partners wear their favorite shade of colors, including nail polish. Some Tauruses might even have a fetish when it comes to painted fingernails and toenails.” Tauruses also love to feel taken care of and pampered. “Given [that] they’re hedonistic, they're simple to please,” she says.
Turn-offs: “Tauruses don’t like people who don’t take care of themselves," Stardust says. "They prefer partners who are well groomed and well put together.” Otherwise they’re not interested.
Sex position: Missionary (when they’re on the receiving end), or any position that puts them at the bottom.
Since Gemini is ruled by Mercury—the planet of communication and technology—and an air sign, which is known for their intellect, it’s no surprise THAT words and communication are a key in foreplay and during sex for Gemini. “They’ll get down as long as they hear beautiful and seductive adjectives coming from their lover’s mouths—before, during, and after sex,” Stardust says. “Sexting gets them off more than the actual act of sex. They really need 24 hours before having sex so they can send flirty messages and get dirty with their partner, like sending and receiving nudes. That’s their vibe.”
Geminis are known for being so easy going, so they don’t mind what you do in bed, but you’ve been warned: they have to chat during sex. Because they’re such chatterboxes, Stardust says Geminis tend to be more in their minds and not in their bodies during sex. As a result, it would be good for them to discuss how things make them feel. “It all goes back to communication,” she says. “If they get feedback from a partner about, ‘Oh this feels good’ or ‘I like when you do that’ that helps them return to their bodies and get out of their minds and more in the present moment.”
Turn-ons: Dirty talk, telling them what feels good, what you like in bed—basically, communication.
Turn-offs: “They don’t like someone who isn’t communicative in bed," Stardust says. "They need someone who likes to talk dirty and gives them feedback. If someone’s quiet they think the sex is boring.”
Sex position: 69. “They love oral sex because you’re using their mouth and they love using their mouths–whether giving or receiving.”
A Cancer's desires change as frequently as their astrological ruler, the Moon, Stardust says. “But once they like someone, they typically pinch their claws into them and never let go.” They’re as protective and prickly as their symbol, the crab, but they’re also a water sign, which means Cancers are “controlling in their own way and very emotional, and sometimes they wear their heart on their sleeves.”
Even though they like being committed, Cancers don’t like to let go of anyone, so they’ll sometimes have a repertoire of other people in the wings. Maybe not coincidentally, Cancers are known as a really fertile sign, and because they’re also a water sign, they like to keep the party going and flowing. As a result, their sex style is typically related to how crabs mate: the female crab stores the male crab’s sperm until she’s ready to use it. “A Cancer will save up all of their energy until they’re ready to have a sex binge and go hard for a weekend,” Stardust says. After sex, they’ll cook you a scrumptious breakfast in bed before a second round of fun. Due to their secretive nature, “you can’t expect Cancers to be fully honest but they will give you a half-truth. ‘It’s not a lie if you believe it to be true’ is their motto,” Stardust says. “Ideally you try to be honest about your side pieces but a half-truth is better than nothing.”
Turn-ons: Breasts, nipples, and anything involving the above. "They like to have their nipples stroked and using nipple clamps," Stardust says. "Use some hot wax for fun on their chest, especially near their nipples.”
Turn-offs: “Someone who is messy and doesn't take care of their whole life," she says. "Cancers like to keep an organized house.”
Sex position: “They like to be on top or prefer reverse cowgirl," Stardust says. "When they’re open to love and feelings, they prefer regular cowgirl. Reverse cowgirl when they’re feeling shy and vulnerable and not wanting to be in touch with their deep emotions.”
As the king of the jungle, Leos like to throw their weight around. “They like to set the ambiance—satin sheets, candlelights. They go above and beyond, like they’ll invite you to the Four Seasons for a romp. That type of thing,” Stardust says. “Because Leos are ruled by the heart chakra, so it’s all about these grandiose declarations of love. They don’t need to be in love, but they like to put on a show and spend money on whomever they’re with.”
Thanks to the sun as their ruler, Leos are all about “let’s live the good life” because they’re generous spirits. But they also have a fierce ego (they are symbolized by the lion) so they can also be selfish, meaning “they like to get off first.” As a fire sign, Leos are wild, so Stardust says: “be prepared to do some crazy stuff.” But their biggest gift can be their biggest flaw. “They always act from their egos—they never let it go," she says. "They get upset if you don’t call them enough or give them attention, but because they have such an intoxicating charm, people want to be around them no matter how demanding they are.” What might help these ferocious lions? “They need to learn to go with the flow in bed and make it less about themselves.”
Turn-ons: “They are often attracted to a lover who worships their performance in bed," Stardust says. "While being pleased first makes them feel regal, they’ll share some room in their bed that has satin sheets and every sex toy known. They also like compliments. Flattery works wonders.”
Turn-offs: “When people talk about them behind their back," she says. "They like to be seen in a certain type of light. It’s all about their reputation, including their sexual skills, so if they think their reputation is being called into question, they’ll freak out.”
Sex position: The leapfrog. “It’s over the top and will get them off fast. It’s ferocious and fierce.”
Virgos are open to lovin' at any time, but “preferably before they get all gross and sweaty throughout the day," Stardust says. And while they’re not cuddly, don’t be fooled by their pristine nature. “Virgos are complete freaks in bed," Stardust says. "You would never think they’re so kinky because they’re so pure and organized, and they're the archetype of the Virgin, but that’s what makes them so horny.”
Stardusts says Virgos are most likely interested in BDSM because they are easily adaptable to try out new positions, and as an earth sign, being in their body and experiencing their senses is important to them. “There is a thin line between pleasure and pain, and that’s a sweet spot for Virgos,” she says. While they’re exploratory, a Virgo’s habitual nature means that sex needs to be repetitious for them. “They like routines so it becomes a habitual habit for them that needs to be at the same time, same place. They like to have sex with the same person. They know who they are and where they’ve been.” Stardust says it would help Virgos to be more open to receiving than giving pleasure. “They loosen up by being more pleasured—by having a partner who will do the wildest things to them,” she says.
Turn-ons: “Being handcuffed, being blind folded," she says. "A lot of the time they like to wear masks. They don’t like to talk a lot. They tend to like kinky and dirty sex.”
Turn-offs: “A messy room. The bedroom can’t be cluttered," Stardust explains. "They don’t like threesomes because it’s too claustrophobic; they like freedom and space. Even though they’re having dirty sex, the room still needs to be clean.”
Sex position: “The chair. Their arms and legs can be tied. They can be close to their partner as well and lock their arms around them and be straddled.”
“Even tempered Libra likes to give up control in the bedroom. They're so docile in real life so they like to experiment with different extremities in the bedroom,” Stardust says. “Libras like to feel pleasure overall, so they like to receive pleasure in all different ways. So whips, chains, light BDSM with spankings will send Libra over the moon in ecstasy.” According to Stardust, the buttocks is one of the areas of the body that Libras rule, so they typically enjoy all things ass-related: butt plugs, spanking, whipping, anal sex—you name it.
While Libras are known for their friendly and flirtatious nature, Stardust says they have trouble connecting with people vulnerably because they are symbolized by the scales, which makes them the only sign in the zodiac that’s represented by a non-living thing. “It may be hard for them to cuddle or get intimate after sex, because they aren’t the most affectionate. They have trouble connecting with people. It takes time for them to build intimacy with a partner.”
She recommends Libras should try going to cuddle parties or cuddling with their partner in the bedroom or outside, hold your partner's hands, or indulge in some PDA. “Building some intimacy is something they could work on with time.”
Turn-ons: “They love a dominant partner," Stardust says. "They like being told what they do.”
Turn-offs: “Someone who is indecisive as they are," she says. "Because they like to be told what to do secretly. They will argue about it but they will give in to someone who tells them what to do.”
Sex position: “They like to get pegged or have anal sex. Some sort of ass play. Because they’re all about the ass.”
Ruled by Mars, the planet of action and passion, “This frisky sign is DTF if the mood is ripe and they’re in tune with another," Stardust says. "There is nothing that won’t turn a Scorpio on. You won’t get shy shuteye as this sign will perform all night long.”
Scorpios also rule the genitals, which means they’re all about getting off and having sex for both pleasure and procreation. While they like their sex hot and steamy (Stardust says Scorpios like to get in their lover’s head, so they’ll likely handcuff their partner mid-hookup and walk out to become the object of sexual obsession) Scorpios also need passion and feelings involved, because they prefer to be intimately connected to their sexual partners. “Scorpions reside at the bottom of the ocean, which makes them really deep creatures,” she says.
But beware: their passion can quickly turn to harshness, thanks to their notorious stinger. “They can be highly critical," Stardust explains. "If they love you, they will push your buttons that can make people feel bad about themselves.” Stardust advises Scorpios to try being kind and not being so critical of their partner(s). “Tell your partner, 'Oh, this was really fun; maybe next time you might want to try [this] instead.’ Be gentle.”
Turn-ons: “Exploring tantra with a partner," Stardust suggests. "Scorpio is a water sign, so sex is more healing and transcendental for them. It’s more about a spiritual journey.”
Turn-offs: “A lack of connection with their partner. If they’re going to hook up with someone, it has to be a soulful penetrating thing. They have casual hookups but mostly don’t.”
Sex position: Sex against a wall. “They love to grab you and have sex with you standing up. They will bend you over anytime, any place. It doesn't matter to a Scorpio.”
As a fire sign, Sagittarians are super adventurous and won’t shy away from a public hookup (think bathroom of the local dive bar or backseat of an Uber). “The archer aims to please and wants to be inspired by your scandalous desires," Stardust says. "You can try and say anything to a Sagittarius and they won’t be freaked out. If you tell them about your sordid past, a Sagittiarius won’t judge you. They’ll probably compliment you. And they’ll be open to your biggest fantasy.” That’s because Sags like to live life to the fullest and like to have fun. “Sex is more about an adventure and quest for them," Stardust says. "It’s nothing more than that.” Which is why they don’t like intimacy.
“Rules don’t apply to them, which means they’ll leave you waking up alone in the morning," she adds. "If you wake up next to a Sagittarius, that means they like you.” To avoid mixed signals, Stardust recommends that Sags use their trademark honesty and be straight-up: “Tell them about your expectations up front.”
Turn-on: “Being the life of the party. Someone who is as wild as they are. Don’t date a Sagittarius if you’re a prude.”
Turn-offs: “Someone who is judgmental and not open to experimentation.”
Sex position: “They’ll do anything," Stardust says. "A threesome is their ideal. Foursome, fivesome even.”
Because Capricorns are the CEOs of the zodiac, they’re known to work hard and play hard. In other words, Stardust says, “Capricorn has a kinky side like no other. They like to indulge and have fun. They typically like bondage–they like to switch roles in BDSM. They like to watch people get undressed. As earth signs, they like to feel in their body and will try BDSM. They're hard workers so they want to decompress in the raunchiest way.”
They also like to watch people get undressed and go to strip clubs and enjoy some bumping and grinding where they can feel like the boss. Reversely, they might be open to being humiliated (perhaps by way of a golden shower). They love touch, too, Stardust says. “Rather than getting handsy with their toes, they’ll opt to use their feet or mouth as a tool to pleasure their partner, or vice versa. Afterwards, they’ll hold their partner tightly, then kiss intimately, and go for another round of sex in a different position.” But once the boss, always the boss. So they likely put work and business in front of sex and relationships; intimacy always comes second. Which is why Stardust says it’s important for them to try to focus on a work-life balance.
Turn-ons: Stardust says most Capricorns have a foot fetish or might like to be abused (in a consensual way). “Some Capricorns might want to buy you things, and then have you treat them like shit after spending thousands of dollars on your hair. They’re into sub-humiliation turn-ons. They like to be your Sugar Daddy who gets treated like shit.”
Turn-offs: “Someone who doesn't want to play their games anymore. They like to be in control of your situation but when you dip out, they freak out. Why did she leave me? Why did she go?”
Sex position: “Any [position] that makes them feel degraded. They probably like to be on the bottom and tied up, and have hot wax poured over them.”
Aquarius is the voyeur of the zodiac. Aquarians prefer to watch and see their partners find pleasure from a distance, Stardust says. This is because they are naturally emotionally detached creatures, and as an air sign—which rules the mind and intellect—they are innately curious beings. Watching a kinky movie is usually something they enjoy doing on their own or with a partner. “They might not want to do those sexual acts in real life, but watching it gets them off,” she says.
Fantasizing about indulging in their richest and deepest desires is something they enjoy, Stardust says, but their detached nature makes it difficult for them to voice what they actually desire in the bedroom. “They're not direct with what they want. They need to tell people what turns them on and what doesn’t. Otherwise, Aquarians won’t do what they really want to do in bed and will end up unsatisfied.”
Turn-ons: “A way to turn them on is to tie them up in a chair and give them a lap dance or have them watch you masturbate," Stardust says. Aquarians also might enjoy "watching other people have sex while they jerk off or they’re being jerked off by someone else. They’ll still keep their distance after they orgasm and relish in what just transpired.”
Turn-offs: Not having an open-minded partner. “It’s scary for them to be with someone who isn’t open with them. While they might have trouble sharing, they need to be with someone who’s able to share their feelings and desires with them so they can feel safe.”
Sex position: Aquarians like to be watched as much as they like to watch others. “They get off being watched while having sex–like having sex in the back of the cab or sex in the elevator if it’s being recorded.”
“Pisces is all about making their partner happy,” Stardust says. “They get caught up in the fantasy and love to make their partners happy in every way.” Which is why Pisces is another low-key freak of the zodiac. “If you're looking for someone who’s into role play, who has a filthy mouth, and will do whatever their partner wants, and have fun doing it–it’s Pisces for sure.”
The traditional ruler of Pisces is Jupiter, which is all about expansion, and their modern ruler, Neptune, is all about fantasy and illusion, “so combine them together and you get a furry handcuffing another furry,” Stardust explains. They’re also creative and have high imaginations, which makes for different scenarios in bed. “They like to be other people.”
Because they’re a water sign, like the waves of the ocean, a Piscean’s mood can be up and down. “They can have some really big walls up sometimes and sometimes they can be the nicest person," Stardust says. "You don’t know who you’re getting.” To curb that ,Stardust suggests partners need to accept Pisces as they are. “They like to work for their love. They’re puppies but they want attention on their terms.”
Turn-ons: Role play, since Pisces "likes to indulge their sensual imaginations with their open-minded partner," Stardust says. "Plus, Pisces are into whatever turns their partner on, so they’re down to try anything. After sex, they’re likely to cuddle and be themselves when sharing tender kisses.”
Turn-offs: “When someone awakens their dream and brings them back to reality. For example, if you’re fantasizing about your ex who you think is sexy as hell but bump into them later and they’re not hot anymore, that’s a boner killer. Reality is their turn off.”
Sex position: “Anything related to water. Sex in the shower, sex in the bubble bath, sex in the ocean.”
