Professional Tool Reviews for Pros
Having reviewed the discontinued Ridgid R86090B handheld vac we’re excited that Ridgid has released a new 18V hand vacuum. The question is whether the Ridgid R8609021 presents a clear upgrade over the former Gen5X model.
Ridgid claims that the new R8609021 18V hand vacuum has over 40% more airflow and 65% more suction power than the Ridgid R86090B. Obviously, that is one of the bigger upgrades when you compare the new model to the older one. Considering that the two are roughly the same size, this is impressive. It is also important to note that the new model comes in about half a pound lighter.
Additionally, previous models of Ridgid 18V Hand Vacuums utilized twist-to-release tanks. These can sometimes empty prematurely or by accident. While not an issue for every user, the new hand vacuum uses a push-to-release detachable tank. This tank emptying system is intended to prevent accidental emptying and also provides greater debris volume.
The Ridgid R8609021 also includes a two-stage filtration system. Comprised of a washable/reusable filter, this system should help the machine maintain suction for longer as it fills.
The Ridgid 18V Hand Vac R8609021 will be available in bare tool and kit form. Look for it starting May 2022 Exclusively at The Home Depot.
Retail Price: $59.97 bare tool, $99 kit (includes R87002 18V 2.0 Ah battery, R86093 Charger). Like all Ridgid hand tools, the R8609021 includes a 3-year limited warranty.
